Brian Epstein reported afterward that: “The Beatles, though not devoted to sport, took readily to the saddle, however, and fought majestically for three hours with four high-spirited farm horses, fording the river, climbing steep rocky banks and emerging without a fall but with several bruises. So much did Paul enjoy riding that he awoke at 7 a.m. on Sunday for a further attempt which proved even more painful than the first.”

The only break Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, George Harrison and John Lennon had during the entire tour, was a few days before their last concert in New York

On September 19th, the group took a well-deserved day off in Missouri at the home of rancher Reed Pigman

“Ringo had holsters and cap pistols and went around shooting everything that moved,” said Pigman.
“They all thought it was fun to say ‘howdy’ and Lennon was always trying to talk in a Texas drawl. The only song they sang on the ranch was Home On The Range.
“I wish I had been older and fit in more,” said Pigman. “Having the Beatles visit is something I wish I could live over again.”

Q: “Although you havent seen much of Dallas, the part of it that you have seen, what do you like?”
PAUL: (southern accent) “Well… pretty fine! Pretty fine.”
Q: “Did you get to see the Presidential site?”
PAUL: “No, the only bit that we’ve seen so far is the hotel.”
JOHN: “And the drive looked like a nice place when we drove to this place here, whatever this is.”

What a great vacation on a beautiful property in Missouri! A few years ago, the Pigman ranch became the Eleven Point State Park. Now, legislators in Missouri are trying to sell off this beautiful property to private interests. We would love if Sir Paul would make a comment about protecting this park and the nature it encompasses! We love our public lands, and we need help protecting the environment and history in the area from being sold and closed to the public.
I agree with Marisa. Everything doesn’t have to be sold off to make a profit. It is a state park, and needs to stay that way! Someone needs to tell Paul what is going on. I guess he still has a ranch in Arizona. Don’t know if it would make a difference, but it might. We need to keep our parks so we can all enjoy them. We need to see nature, protect our environment and this is a part of the history of this area. Sad if the legislators get their way on this park! Someone needs to start a petition to stop the sale of the Eleven Point State Park. I am happy/sad I scrolled down on this article.
It was interesting to explore your blog! And this post was the best, including a combination of my two favorite things – the Beatles and horses = ) Thank you for sharing!
I was there on that Saturday. Me and three other teens broke into the back side of the ranch compound, got over the tall hedge fence and came out about 150 feet or so from the lareg olympic pool. It was in the late afternoon and we could see 4 or 5 men over inside the pool, which was surrounded by a chain link fence. A large man started shouting at us and tore open the fence of the pool and was coming at us. At that moment, one of the other men rushed down to the end of the pool, still inside, and shouted to the man (we assumed he was a guard) to stop, saying he would take care of the matter. Then the man motioned us to come over to where he was at the ned of the pool. He had on swimming trunks and a sheer long sleved white shirt, so characteristic of what the British band members wore in those days. It was John Lennon. He could see that we were four harmless guys who were just there to get a glimpse of them and I could tell he knew we meant no harm. We could see Ringo, Paul and another man, whom Lennon said was their manager, sitting in lawn chairs at the other end of the pool. They never came over or spoke to us, but would exchange looks occasionally.
Lennon spend over 30 minutes talking with us about a lot of things, including the music we liked and about thier favorites, and he also told us the story of how they happened to come to the ranch, which was unplanned. It was a magical time for us and something i will never ever forget. Lennon was a very engaging person and was interested in all sorts of things and people….I will always think there was something mystical or supernatural about this encounter, as several strange and unexplained things came to me in later years, in connection with this day.
