They stayed at the prestigious George V Hotel during their residency.John and Paul shared a suite because they were required to write a number of songs during their stay for the “A Hard Day’s Night” film and album. In a move to promote productivity, a piano was installed in their suite. Despite their grueling performance schedule – 18 days of concerts, playing up to three sets each day – John and Paul wrote three of the album’s most cherished songs in their suite: ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’, ‘If I Fell’ and ‘I Should Have Known Better.’Below are photos from January 17, 1964 at the George V Hotel and backstage with French singer and actress Sylvie Vartan, who was on the bill with the Beatles at the Olympia.
