FEBRUARY 3, 1966 – Paul McCartney met 15 year-old entertainer Stevie Wonder for the first time after Wonder’s show at London’s Scotch Of St. James nightclub at Masons Yard, in London, England. On February 18th, Wonder told NME magazine: “When on tour I have to write essays about the places I visit. In the essay I’ll be writing when I get back I’ll certainly include my meeting with Paul McCartney. I met him in the Scotch Of St. James club. He’s a really swinging guy, the only Beatle I’ve met.”The Scotch of St. James was also where an unknown American guitarist named Jimi Hendrix first performed on the very night of his arrival in England on September 24, 1966 when he joined the house band for an impromptu session on stage. It was on that night that Hendrix met Kathy Etchingham who became his girlfriend.
