Saturday 3 February 1968. The Beatles turn their attention to John’s ‘Across the Universe.’ Lennon intentionally recorded his vocals at a higher-than-normal pitch.Paul then invited 2 young women waiting outside the studio to sing on the track. They recorded the song’s chorus and were then escorted back outside.John regards the song’s lyrics as his personal best: “It’s true poetry. The words stand up without melody.”The song will first appear on the 1969 charity album ‘No One’s Gonna Change Our world’ and later – in a different form – on the Beatles’ ‘Let It Be’ album.
