Paul McCartney and Elton John Make Hilarious Cameos in Spinal Tap II: The End Continues Trailer

Legendary music icons Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Elton John are officially part of the star-studded lineup in the upcoming comedy sequel Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. A brand-new teaser trailer has revealed the rock legends’ laugh-out-loud cameos in the highly anticipated mockumentary.

A Rock ’n’ Roll Farewell

The film reunites the fictional heavy metal icons Nigel Tufnel, David St Hubbins, and Derek Smalls — played by Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer — as they prepare for a final farewell concert in New Orleans. The sequel is directed by Rob Reiner, who also reprises his role as bumbling documentary filmmaker Marty DiBergi.

Like the 1984 cult classic This Is Spinal Tap, the new movie is packed with celebrity cameos. The original famously featured appearances from Billy Crystal and Anjelica Huston — and the sequel is going even bigger.

McCartney Calls a “Pink Torpedo” Lyric “Literature”

One of the most talked-about moments in the trailer sees Paul McCartney humorously describe one of Spinal Tap’s more questionable lyrics about a “pink torpedo” (a cheeky sexual innuendo) as pure “literature.”

Meanwhile, Elton John steals the scene by joining the fictional band on stage for a larger-than-life performance of their cult hit “Stonehenge”. The band even tries to recruit Questlove from The Roots as their new drummer, adding another layer of absurdity to the rock satire.

More Cameo Surprises

The movie also features appearances from country superstar Garth Brooks, Canadian musician Paul Shaffer, sitcom legend Fran Drescher (The Nanny), and British comedians Nina Conti, Kerry Godliman, and Chris Addison.

Spinal Tap Legacy Continues

Production company Bleecker Street has acquired the rights to both the sequel and the original Spinal Tap movie, which will be restored and re-released in cinemas this summer before returning to streaming platforms later in the year.

Director Rob Reiner expressed his excitement, saying:

“So happy to be working with the folks at Bleecker Street who are passionate about keeping Tap’s legacy alive and happy to give Marty DiBergi another shot at relevancy.”

From Cult Classic to Comedy History

The original This Is Spinal Tap became a cult hit for its satirical take on the rock ’n’ roll lifestyle, inspiring countless mockumentaries and comedy projects. The fictional band has even performed live for real audiences, including at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, Glastonbury Festival, and Live Earth.

In 2009, Spinal Tap was nominated for Classic Rock magazine’s Roll of Honour, cementing its place in comedy and music history.

Release Date

Spinal Tap II: The End Continues will hit cinemas on 12 September 2025 — over 40 years after the original introduced fans to the most hilariously shambolic band in rock history.
