in the United States, Immigration and Naturalization Service Judge Ira Fieldsteel orders that John Lennon must leave the United States within 60 days or face deportation. He also makes the decision to grant Yoko Ono tenure. Supporting John in his case are John Lindsay, the Mayor of New York, Lord Harlech, the former British Ambassador to Washington, plus various artists and academics across the country. Judge Fieldsteel, after his decision, announces that only one fact prevents John from being accepted as a permanent resident in the United States, his conviction in London in November 1968. John immediately appeals.
Outside court, he tells the press, “Having celebrated our fourth wedding anniversary, we’re not ready to sleep in separate beds. Peace and love, John and Yoko.”
