In late December 1974, the Beatles were in the midst of finalizing the band’s break up and John was supposed to appear in New York to sign the final dissolution papers. The other three Beatles had already signed the documents.

Instead, John blew off the meeting and traveled with May Pang and 11-year-old Julian to Palm Beach, Florida. Morris Levy, the music executive with alleged mob ties, offered to have John, May and Julian stay at his Palm Beach condominium.

“We wanted to give Julian a good time for the Christmas holiday, somewhere warm,” said John.

The group walked on the beach, lounged by the pool and Julian and John threw firecrackers under the palm trees. They spent a day at Disney World, where he was mostly unrecognized.

“I don’t really want to leave Palm Beach. I want to own a piece of it,” said John.

The Apple lawyers finally tracked down John while they were at Disney World and so the documents officially ending the greatest rock band in the history of the world was signed at a hotel overlooking Disney World.

In 1980, John and Yoko bought El Solano, an ocean front mansion in Palm Beach.
