Saturday 30 August 1969 – John Lennon and Ringo Starr travel to the Isle of Wight to see Bob Dylan

The day preceding they watched Bob Dylan perform at the Isle of Wight Festival, John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Ringo Starrand Maureen Starkey set out to the island.

George Harrison and his better half Pattie had arrived the earlier day. Paul McCartney didn’t go to the celebration as his girl Mary had been conceived on 28 August 1969.

John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr watched Bob Dylan and The Band perform at the Isle of Wight Festival on tonight.

The three were joined by their particular spouses, Yoko Ono, Pattie Harrison and Maureen Starkey. Paul McCartney was not present, as his better half Linda had brought forth their little girl Mary on 28 August.

Harrison and Mal Evans had met Dylan in Portsmouth on 26 August, to welcome the American on his landing to the UK. Dylan took the ship to the Isle of Wight soon thereafter, and started practices at Forelands Farm in Bembridge.

The Harrisons touched base on the island two days after the fact, and the Lennons and Starkeys went there on 30 August. The celebration occurred on 30 and 31 August at Wootton; Dylan’s appearance was especially outstanding as it was his first open execution in three years.

Around 150,000 individuals saw Dylan’s execution. And additionally three of The Beatles, the group of onlookers included Keith Richards, Bill Wyman, Syd Barrett, Eric Clapton, Elton John and Jane Fonda.

We went to the Dylan show, and if there had been a jam, we would have got up. It was killed before it happened. It was so late by the time he got on. We would have jammed if it had been earlier. The crowd was dying on their feet by the time he got on.

I went with him and The Beatles to the farmhouse where he was clearly in a merry mood because he had felt it had gone so well… The Beatles had brought a test pressing of Abbey Road and we listened to it and had quite a party.
