Story of Ringo Starr

Ringo Starr was born Richard Starkey on July 7, 1940 in a small two-story house in a Liverpool area called Dingle. This makes him the oldest Beatle before John, who is three months younger. Ringo’s father, also called Richard, was originally a Liverpool dockworker and later worked in a bakery. There he met Ringo’s mother, Elsie. His parents divorced in 1943 and Elsie married Harry Graves.

Ringo was always a happy boy during his childhood. And that despite the fact that at the age of 6 he had to spend a long time in the hospital due to appendicitis and was even in a coma for 2 months. In addition, when he was 13, Ringo had a cold that developed into pleurisy, forcing him to frequently miss school. As a result, at the age of 15 he could barely read and write.

Like the other Beatles, the young Richard was involved in Liverpool’s skiffle scene. After forming his own group called The Eddie Clayton Skiffle Group with Eddie Miles in 1957, he joined the Raving Texans in 1959, a group of five with singer Rory Storm. During this time, he was nicknamed Ringo because of the rings he wore and because it sounded like a cowboy. Ringo is said to have received the last name in order to be able to announce his drum solos as “Starr Time”.
