NOVEMBER 21, 1995 – The Beatles “Anthology 1” was released in the US, featuring 60 tracks including the track “Free As A Bird,” a song originally composed and recorded in 1977 as a home demo by John Lennon. The three remaining Beatles Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr re-worked the John demo, given to McCartney by Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono Lennon. Produced by Harrison’s Traveling Wilburys band-mate Jeff Lynne, the three added additional music and lyrics, instrumentation and backing vocals, with McCartney and Harrison both taking a turn at a lead vocal.It was released as the first part of the Anthology trilogy of albums with “Anthology 2” and “Anthology 3”, all of which tie-in with the televised special “The Beatles Anthology.” The album topped the Billboard 200 album chart and was certified 8x Platinum by the RIAA. All of The Anthology albums became available at the iTunes Store on June 14, 2011.
