‘When George was ten, a classmate offered to sell him a beginner’s guitar for three pounds, ten shillings. It was a lot of money in those days but George’s mother bought it for him. His father had a friend who ran a pub and played guitar, and he showed George how to finger chords to tunes from the twenties and thirties such as ‘Dinah’ and ‘Whispering’ George tried the new chords out for his mother, twisting the guitar pegs until each string came as close to true as he could manage, positioning his fingers to best effect. The instruments’ cheap wooden neck bent, and his fingers bled from pushing down on the strings.
‘I’ll never learn this’ he said
‘You will son,’ Louise encouraged, ‘Just keep at it’
She sat up with him until he quit, teary eyed, at two-o-clock in the morning He looked at the toy instrument and chafed. ‘You don’t understand about guitars, do you Mum’ he said.
‘No,’ she admitted ‘But if you stick to it, I’m sure you’ll make it’

“Our house was very small. Two up and two down – step straight in off the pavement, step right out of the backroom. The front room was never used. It had the posh lino and a three piece suite, was freezing cold and nobody ever went in it, we’d all huddled together in the kitchen, where the fire was, with the kettle on, and a little iron cooking stove.”- George Harrison

Peter Harrison, older brother of the late Beatle, George Harrison, and a long-time Henley resident, has died at the age of 66. He had been ill with cancer.
Peter was the second youngest of three sons born to Liverpool bus driver Harold Harrison and his wife Louise. Besides George, who died in 2001, Peter had another brother, Harry, and a sister, Louise.
The Harrisons’ childhood home was in Wavertree, Liverpool, until 1950 when the family moved to Speke.

After leaving Dovedale School it was time to go to the Seniors, George passed his 11plus exam and was excepted into the Liverpool Institute High School in Liverpool City Centre, another pupil at the “Inny” but a year above him was Paul McCartney. George and Paul would travel to school on the same bus from Speke to the Inny, and became friends through their interest in Rock-n-Roll.

“I had two brothers and one sister – my sister was twelve when I was born; she’d taken her Eleven Plus. I don’t really remembering much of her from my childhood because she left home when she was seventeen. She went to teacher college and didn’t’ come back.”- George Harrison

I’m guessing George’s mother took the photo

Lovely pictures of one of the FAB four George Harrison was a fantastic musician in his own right his music will live on for ever got most of his album’s he was simply the best since sliced bread.
Great pictures a couple of rare one too
George Harrison had his 17th birthday in 1960, the year The Beatles arrived in Hamburg in a full-packed mini-van.
So started his rough rock’n roll life at full-speed.
He was 20 when the Beatlemania started,
He bought a sitar and played it on “Norwegian Wood” when he was 22
In 1968, he bought Moog and in the year next played it on many Abbey Road -tracks
He also released his first solo -LP, produced another artist, and made music -LP for film.
He was then 26, and the band dissolved.
At 27, he launched his solo career with the world n:o 1 triple-LP, that sold 7 x platinum in the US.
At 28, he put up the first-ever charity rock-concert
At 31, he put up own music label and long touring.
At 35, he put up his film producing company.
…………
Seems he gave all he had.
He had the most amazing life one can imagine.
He was wonderfully persistent and gained so much.
He didn’t grew bitter or jealous, although there’re many examples in the music world about that.
Just my opinion, but you overthink. . He was pretty straightforward. Not a mystery. Not complicated at all. Best information to be gleaned is from direct interviews, which are everywhere. He was unfailingly consistent, through every interview- no pretentiousness. The written word is to be avoided, only because the majority are written by those who never even met him. They perpetuate that same myth of quiet, mystic, mystery nonsense.
He was just a regular, normal human being, possessed of an insatiable curiosity, conscious of his own shortcomings, a loving spirit, more sensitive than he liked to let on, and braver than anyone would assume.
That’s all I wanted to say.
Love George! My favorite Beatles❤️
