almost exactly 50 years ago, the people offered in the small ski village Salzburg Obertauern a strange sight. There stood in March 1965 four long-haired guy from England who were supposedly world famous, shaky on skis when Kirchbühellift around. Wild they waved with ski poles in the air around, they kept upright only with difficulty, and otherwise they seemed pretty clueless. “Help! I need somebody!”

These helpless four, were the Beatles, who had come to Obertauern to here scenes for the film “Help!” to rotate, the German-speaking later with the silly title “Hi – Hi – Help!” was released in theaters. Director was Richard Lester, an expert on comic-absurd Entertainment.

John Lennon was then the only one who had previously ever skied before – in St. Moritz, some teaching hours. So four dashing guys were hired from the area that the English were powerful to the Fab Four to doubeln in those scenes where they should experience their adventures on skis, Herbert Lürzer, Gerhard Krings, Franz Bogensperger and Hans Pretscherer.


Before the camera all have been equipped with long-haired mushroom head wigs. Bogensperger had guests spotted previously in the village. “When I saw her for the first time,” he later recalled, “I exclaimed: ‘Mei, san of schiache wives’ what someone said, ‘What you’re a jerk, those are the Beatles’.”
